The benefits of wearing sunglasses

The 27th June is National Sunglasses Day (yes, seriously!) and we are rapidly approaching this landmark moment. Yes, I am being a little sarcastic. However, it did make me want to write about the benefits of sunglasses. Because there are many! As you know your favorite shades are not just designed to look cool.

Protect your eyes, like you protect your skin

Yes, cool looking sunglasses (and preferably sustainable and conscious sunglasses) are important. But even more important is that your trusty sunnies are protecting you from the sun's rays. Shielding you from UV rays is needed because it can be extremely harmful to your eyesight. You are used to protecting your skin from the sun and to take care of your skin health. But eye protection is just as important as protecting your skin. Sound eyesight is a blessing so wear sunglasses that will protect your eyes from damaging ultraviolet rays.

Sunglasses Invented

Reduce the likelihood of skin cancer:

Research shows that around 5% to 10% of all skin cancers is found near the eyelids. So it is very important to protect your eyes and its surrounding areas. When you wear sunglasses you protect these parts from UV rays. Make sure you choose a model that cover a good part of the skin around your eyes.

Protect against macular degeneration:

Macular degeneration is an incurable eye disease that sometimes eventually leads to blindness. Harmful UV rays enhance and worsen the macular degeneration process that can lead to big eyesight problems. So it’s important for your eyesight to wear UV protected sunglasses.

Most sunglasses with a UV 400 category indication (including the entire BEINGBAR range), block all light rays with wavelengths up to 400 nanometers (nm). This covers all UVA and UVB rays.

Pterygium:

Pterygium (or Surfers Eye, or conjunctiva) is an eye disease where pink colored, triangular tissue grows on the cornea of eye. usually on both eyeballs. It is not serious usually but it is irritating and annoying and sometimes it gets painful. Drops and surgery are common treatments.

But of course, often the best treatment is prevention. Doctors recommend sunglasses wraparound with UV protection (besides wearing a hat in sunny environments). Make sure to wear sunglasses on cloudy days when the sun and its rays are not very noticable. Even then the UV rays can damage your eyesight.

Decrease the risk of cataracts:

Cataract clouds the lens of the eye which leads to a decrease in vision. Sometimes cataracts are the cause of blindness. There are several ways how you can get a cataract. And exposure to UV radiation emitted by the sun unfortunately is one of those ways. Also for this reason it's very important to protect your eyes from UV rays by wearing sunglasses with good quality UV protected lenses.

Reduction of migraine:

Migraine is a headache disorder. Sun rays increase the migraine UV rays just like the trigger for the migraine. Wearing good sunglasses regularly reduces the frequency of the migraines . And even when you suffer from a migraine, sunglasses block excessive light, which alleviates the pains, at least a bit. There! That's a bonus reason right there!

Winter weather:

It’s essential to protect your eyes in more extreme winter weather. This includes the reflection and glare caused by ice and snow. This is the well-known phenomena of "snowblindness". This intensifies or bundles (refracts) the UV rays which can damage your eyes. This in turn can affects your eyesight.

What does polarized mean in sunglasses?

Especially sunglasses with polarized lenses help in environments like these. These polarized lenses are also very comfortable while driving. Why? Because they block horizontal light reflected from the furface of the road. This will prevent you from squinting all the time. Just make sure you take off your sunglasses when the sun sets.

Protection from debris:

Wind can blow sand an other debris in your eyes. The wind can also turn the sun into a giant "hair dryer", where hot air is constantly blowing into your eyes,. This can lead to irritation of your eyes. Or even damage them. Just think about how bad just one single grain of sand can hurt when it gets stuck inyour eye! It is important to protect your eyes from wind, heat and debris by wearing sunglasses when you go outside.

Sunglasses for Clear Vision:

Sunglasses with the right lens will increase the clarity of your vision. That in turn will lead to improved performance whilst driving. and also when you play sports, such as golf, fishing, and watersports. You will see clearer, perform better and drive safer.

Personalize your style:

You can wear sunglasses for style. Some sunglasses enhance your personality and style and make you look awesome. There are many designs of sunglasses that will suit you according to your outfit design and its colors. Or your specific face shape. Sunglasses are available in different shapes designs colors and brands that will suit you according to your personality.
